Words from the Chair
Since our return from our visit last year, we have welcomed a new trustee. Jane Gay who will focus on staff support and work with Pete Turner in exploring funding opportunities.
In 2018 we have held two trustee meetings which focussed on finances of the Centre, the launch of the Bendon Bursary and a review of the November / December actions arising from our visit and setting priorities for 2018.
Since January 2018, Beverly has provided regular support to the Centre mnager, TJ.in checking monthly budgets, improving monthly budget forecasts and identifying possible shortages. We are all very conscious of the need to raise additional funding but are keen that TCHC establishes a sustainable financial model. Currently, TCHC charity contributes 14% of the Centre’s annual budget as well as providing some medicines and supplies.
The trustees agreed to ring fence money for the Bendon Bursary and we were all impressed with the detailed application of Chernor Jallow. He has now received money to support his second year of study at the University of The Gambia. We hope to include regular updates on the website on how things are progressing. In the meantime, Chernor will continue his hard work at the Centre.
Trustees were also conscious that it would be helpful to extend the contribution of individuals with expertise in clinical matters as trustees’ experience lies in other areas. Consequently, we have invited Clare Westwood to visit TCHC in November . Clare is a qualified Senior Nurse and will conduct an independent, professional review of the clinical practice and will provide support to Centre staff.
Once again, a big thank you to all those who have donated money or in kind over the past year and a particular thank you to the parishioners of St John the Baptist Church in Ilford, Essex.
